Metaphysical Mystic Mama
I Admit it, I'm Just a Big Science Geek
Yes, I admit mobius strips, quarks and mesons turn me on. I love physics!
There I've said it...I am a total science freak and proud of it!
People are usually surprised to find out that someone as Earthy as me, who reads tarot cards, does yoga and is a metaphysical expert, is actually a total science geek. What surprises me is that so many people consider the metaphysical to be spiritual, when it is so obviously scientific.
Just for the record, no I am not a pagan, new age, wicca, religious in any way, shape or form. I am a science geek, I believe that particle physics proves the existence of a higher purpose or power (God if you prefer that term) I believe that the inter-connectivity of all energy, material and non-material is extremely spiritual.
About Mystic Mama
The views expressed in this lens are entirely mine and mine alone. They are a culmination of a lifetime of studying all things metaphysical, mystical, theological, scientific, and spiritual.
I've been able to see auras as long as I can remember. I was born with a highly developed psychic awareness, that thankfully, was never suppressed by my family. I come from a long line of psychic women, so they never blinked an eye about my abilities. I am extremely empathic, to the point where I physically feel other people's pain, fear, anger etc... this is not pleasant, and is one of the reasons I no longer do professional tarot or psychic readings.
Over the years I have developed ways to keep myself insulated from other people's energy. Because of this, I am not a touchy-feely person, in fact I rarely touch other humans, I rarely give hugs, I avoid touching public objects made of natural fibers like wood, metal or stone, that tend to adsorb human emotion. Unfortunately this causes some people to think I'm kind of cold and unfeeling, when it's actually just the opposite.
I do have incredible healing abilities, which is part of why I forced myself to be a part of the medical professions for so many years. I have done hands on healing and meditative healing that have had very dramatic results. My husband's recovery from his traumatic burn injury is just one of many.
A great story we have about it, is about a cousin of mine who was in a motorcycle accident last fall. He was in very critical condition, with punctured lungs that had developed pneumonia, multiple broken bones and internal injuries. Obviously our family was distraught. I did meditative healing with him for 3 nights in a row, during which time I go into a trance state and meet the injured/ill person at a place I think of as the garden of healing.
For three nights I met my cousin there, along with his dead mother we and other spirit healers that are just there, we worked on healing his lungs and organs and other injuries. My cousin made it through the critical stage and eventual was moved to a rehab hospital, where non-immediate family were allowed to visit him. I hadn't seen this cousin in almost 12 years when my husband and I went to visit him.
The first thing he said to us when we walked into his hospital room was, "oh my God, Bambi, this is so weird, I've been dreaming about you." He went on to say that he had been having dreams where me and his Mom were sitting at a table and talking to him. He was freaked out because the dreams had seemed so real, and because he knew I was a blond now and no longer a redhead, even though he hadn't seen me in 12 years.
That is just one example of many. I've been having prophetic dreams all of my life, I see and sense spirits, I get psychic impressions from objects, etc... During my adult life I have both embraced and struggled with these abilities. I feel most comfortable using these abilities in creative projects like my artwork and my writing.
All of what I discuss in this lens is based on a combination of scientific principles combined with knowledge I have gained in deep meditative trance. I am not by any means claiming anything in this lens is scientific fact or even true for anyone but myself. This is my personal spiritual understanding of the Universe, and I share it here only because so many have asked me to explain what I believe and why. I've tried to do this as honestly and openly as I can.
Thank You...Bambi
What is A Mystic?
Metaphysics & Mysticism Go Well Together
A mystic is one who believes that through meditation, contemplation and self surrender, they can obtain union with the "Godhead" ~ Universal Wisdom ~ Cosmic Consciousness ~ Spiritual transcendence.
Mystics are very different from occultists. Occultists are practitioners of "secret or hidden" esoteric knowledge, such as magic or alchemy, or are members of "secret" societies, such as the Rosicrucian s, Free-Masons, Wicca or Kabbahlah. Personally, this all sounds pretty shady to me. If what they knew was actually "real" then why all the secrets?
Mystics take a more direct route. Mysticism is the act of seeking union with a higher power. Mysticism was defined by Thomas Aquinas as "the knowledge of God through experience" By Evelyn Underhill as "the art of union with reality"
Mystics believe that the supreme being ~ higher power ~ Godhead ~ sustains the manifested Universe and is responsible for all aspects of existence and consciousness.
This being or more accurately "energy" is often described by mystics as a light, an abstract infinite reality or a ball of energy. Despite these variations, all mystical techniques have as their ultimate goal, communication with and knowledge of a transcendental state of being. Union with that energy.
Esoteric Definitions
Mystical
Relating to or resulting from an individuals direct communion with God or the ultimate reality. To experience ones inner life.
Mysticism
The experience of mystical union or direct communication with ultimate reality. The belief that direct knowledge of God, spiritual truth or ultimate reality can be attained through experience, intuition and insight.
Occult
Secret, concealed, not able to be seen or detected. Matters regarded as involving some secret knowledge.
Occultism
Belief in or study of the Occult.
Spiritualism
The view that ones spirit is the prime element of reality. The belief that spirits of the dead communicate with the living, usually through a psychic medium.
Mystic Mama's Spirituality
So, What Do I believe in?
I do believe in a higher power. I don't believe that power is an actual being, but more like a self sustaining ball of energy that is powered by it's own waste.
A very simplified explanation of this would be to imagine our Universe like a cow in a field of grass. The cow eats the grass which turns the grass into cow poop, which lands back in the dirt, fertilizes the dirt so it can grow more grass to feed the cow. Yes, that is overly simple, but shows the never ending circle of life. To me, God is basically the nucleus of all other energy.
The difference between "God" and a ball of energy, is that the "Godhead" has consciousness.
Now think of God as a ball of biological matter. We start with simple single cell replication, which leads to more and more complex cell structures. Now convert that thought to energy cells. The Godhead created beings of pure energy in replication of itself, thus the phrase "and God created mankind in his own image."
Planes of Existence
Eventually these beings of pure energy evolved into physical matter, though the energy being or more accurately our "soul" selves came first. Of course the first beings that the Godhead created most likely never became "physical" beings. These first and oldest beings are most likely what humans perceive as Angels and spirit guides.
By the time energy began to manifest into physical form there were already an infinite number of layers or dimensions between our world and the pure energy of the Godhead. String theory contends that our dimension of reality is just one small layer of the infinite dimensions of reality.
Think of it like a jaw-breaker candy, the kind that changes color and flavor the longer you suck on it. The Godhead is at the center of the candy as pure energy, each layer going outward is a whole new dimension of reality. I believe there are many physical & non-physical realities or dimensions between our world and the Godhead, and even more dimensions beyond ours as the ball grows larger. Though as many string theorist believe it may not be an ever expanding circle, but more like slices, like slices in a loaf of bread.
Our Spirits And Reincarnation
As physical beings, I believe that we have very little knowledge of our "soul" or pure energy selves. I believe that we manifest as physical beings for the purpose of learning and growing as beings.
I believe that as "spirits" we choose to enter this physical plane of existence as babies, with no real memory or knowledge of our "energy selves." If we came here with all of our soul knowledge, then experiencing physical life wouldn't be much of a learning experience now would it?
So yes, I totally believe in reincarnation, though not the caste system reincarnation idioms of organized religions like Hinduism. I believe that before we come into physical manifestation, we as soul beings choose the life we are about to live according to the lessons that our souls wish to learn and the types of physical experiences we wish to learn from.
You may ask, why would I not have chosen an easy life of wealth and leisure? Well now, think about it, we wouldn't learn very much from that now would we? Our "soul" selves are much smarter than our physical selves, as hard as this life can seem, these challenges are exactly what we need to help our souls learn and grow and evolve. It's very similar to parenthood, if we protect our children from everything, they learn nothing. Only through experience can our children learn, and grow into healthy adults. We are the children of our own souls.
Heaven And Hell
I don't believe in Heaven or Hell. Both of these concepts were created by humans in an effort to control and dominate other humans.
I do however believe there are higher and lower planes of existence, though they are more likely inner and outer planes, with the inner or higher planes being the ones closer to the Godhead. The outer or lower planes would also technically be the newer planes and thus less developed. If one were to be somehow transported to a lower plane of existence, it might very well seem like a hellish experience.
I personally picture these planes of existence as a spiral, that begins at the center or Godhead and spirals out to infinity, with each dimension or plane as a section of the spiral. This would complement and unite all of the various versions of string theory. In fact it most likely is a spiral shaped mobius strip with the Godhead as the beginning and the end, using the waste or fuel of negative energy to create new/positive energy.
Mystic Mama's Universe
This is how I envision how the Universe is actually structured. Keep in mind that to me the "Universe" includes all of the different planes of existence or alternate dimensions. Our World, including the solar system and space surrounding it, would be just one small slice of the entire "Universe."
Using the image to the right, the Godhead is in the center, a swirling vortex of energy. Imagine that the green represents positive energy and the blue represents negative energy. This would be an ever changing, shifting, growing organism.
Notice the similarity to the double helix of strands of DNA. I think that the building blocks of the Universe work in a very similar way, though notice the blue & green strands. I believe that positive energy flows out of the godhead via the green strand, co-mingling with negative energy, because both types are necessary, then the (waste by-products) of the negative energy flow back into the godhead, fueling the whole process.
Of course this is an over-simplified explanation, but I think it illustrates what I'm trying to explain. Of course I could be way off base but, this is how I see our universe during deep trance meditation, when I feel connected to the collective unconscious mind. Also I see it more like millions of these double helix type strands, all spiraling out from the godhead, and growing longer every moment.
Now the point I'm not sure about is, if each double helix strand contains multiple dimensions/ planes of existence or if each stand represents just one dimension/ plane?
Dharma And Karma
I do believe in good and evil, basic physics teaches us that we need both positive and negative energy to survive. I think the Eastern spiritual practices of Dharma and Karma work well with the mystic~metaphysical mind.
It really, once again all comes down to basic physics. Every action creates a reaction. Since everything is made up of both positive and negative energy, the key really is to be able to find balance.
I believe that our challenge on this physical plane of existence is to find a level of balance in all aspects of our lives. In order to achieve that balance we must at least aspire to be as positive as possible in order to find balance in a world so full of negative energy.
Religious Icons
Jesus, Mohamed, Buddha, Krishna, etc...
Here is my personal theory. All of these people were really smart. So smart that they saw through the fear mongering politics of their times and tried to help their fellow humans by showing them that they didn't need all of that dogma controlling their lives.
That instead, all they needed to do was follow basic karmic laws:
* Treat others as you want to be treated
* Do not lie, cheat, steal, rape or murder others
* Help each other
* Love each other
* Feed each other
* Heal each other
Once these Iconic fellows got a large enough group of people following them and in turn questioning authority, the authorities got nervous. Killed said "prophet" and then had their best public relations spinners turn the masses "prophet" into a martyr. Then these "authorities" aka murderers, added a bunch of rules and doctrine to that prophet's story, claimed these rules were found after said "prophet" was dead, and then used the new and improved "story" to start churches where the same old authorities could once again regain control of the masses.
Throw in a few rival authorities, with their own dead "prophet" that come along every few hundred years, so a holy war can usurp the old authority, and we've pretty much got the history of humankind.
God Protect Me From Your Followers
The part of all this "religion" that just amazes me, is that the majority of humans on this planet, even in this day and age, still buy into this obvious manipulation.
People are still fighting wars and killing each other in the name of "God!"
It is just total insanity!
Humankind's religious Icons were in life, people who tried to promote peace and love, yet countless humans use these peaceful teachers as an excuse to commit violent acts. It really is just disgusting and frustrating to watch humankind let these religious and political organizations manipulate them and use fear to gain power and wealth at humanity's expense.
Organized Religion
Now the basic concepts and tenets of every religion are really excellent guidelines for humans to live by.
* Don't steal, lie, cheat, hurt or kill each other
* Treat others with kindness, forgiveness and love
* Help, love, feed & heal each other
These are all thing that we should all aspire to. These basic concepts are what the religious Icons tried to teach us.
Everything else in those so-called "holy books" is just a bunch of rules that were written by a few rich and powerful men who realized that they could control and profit from the rest of humankind if they just kept the masses afraid at all times.
Fear + Terrorism + War + Hell = Money & Power
Guess what?
God doesn't need your money ~ God doesn't need you to build giant temples filled with priceless artifacts ~ God doesn't need you to kneel down and worship him in fear ~ God is not that self centered, only humans are.
A Word About Paganism ~ New Age & Earth based Spirituality
I get a lot of comments from people who are into the so-called "New Age" versions of pagan and Earth Religions, where people just assume that I am like minded.
Unfortunately, this really isn't the case. I do incorporate a lot of the old pagan and Earth based concepts into my own personal spirituality, but I am not a part of any organized religion.
I believe strongly that a person's spirituality should be a completely personal experience between each person and their concept of God, regardless of what that concept is. Once any spiritual concept becomes "organized" by humans, I believe it is corrupted. Humans are too flawed to lead other humans spiritually.
The thing that scares me about these so called "New Age" religions, is that in reality they really are just another version of fear based religion. The people who become involved in these religions, often do so because they have been hurt or persecuted by one of the "mainstream" religions. They grasp on to these "new" ideas, because of the fear instilled in them by their previous religious experiences.
Now, what happens as these small "New Age" religions grow bigger and stronger. Christianity started out as a beautiful thing, but once humans figured out how rich and powerful they could become by manipulating it, it became corrupted. My greatest fear is that these people are just running from one corrupted system and as time passes will find that the new system is just as corrupt.
The Power of Prayer
Why Prayer Works
Prayer doesn't work because some guy up on a cloud hears you and magically grants your wish, that really is just silly.
Prayer works because of basic physics. Thought is a form of energy. Positive thoughts, especially when done by multiple people, focused on the same thought, as in prayer chains directed toward healing a certain person, creates a tremendous amount of positive energy.
That energy does manifest and really can heal the person who is the focus of all that positive, healing energy.
The energy of our thoughts can affect our lives in positive and in negative ways. Just as our positive thinking can manifest into positive outcomes, our negative thoughts can also bring negative outcomes.
This is why we really need to get out of the habit of thinking negative thoughts. When we waste energy with thoughts like fear, worry, guilt or anger, we create those elements in our lives. Negative thinking is very unhealthy and can actually make us physically ill and accident prone.
Our thoughts can greatly affect our lives. If you think positive thoughts, you will have a much more positive reality, but if you think negative thoughts, your reality will reflect those thoughts.
About Ghosts And Hauntings
The definition of ghost is: A haunting spirit or a spirit that haunts.
The definition of haunt is: To visit often
The definition of haunting is: Occasions or locations where discarnate entities present themselves.
First off, there is no such thing as a ghost. We are all spirits. Some of the spirits on this plane of existence are in physical form and some are in non-physical form. Anything that has conscious thought does have a spirit or "soul", so yes most animals do have souls. Animal souls or "spirits" are just less evolved that our spirits are, just as animals in physical form are less evolved than humans.
There are many spirits in this plane of existence that are much more evolved that human spirits are. If you think this planet we call Earth is crowded with humans, you would be amazed at how outnumbered we are by the non-physical spirits we share our world with.
The spirits of those whom we have known in physical form, that have shed their physical bodies, do return and visit us. They do not haunt us in any malicious way, but rather in the true definition of the word they sometimes visit us often, though I suppose it could seem scary to people who are not very in-tune with their own spirit self and intuitive mind.
As far as ghosts go technically any spirit that visits us could be considered a ghost, including everyone you know walking around alive in a human body. We are all ghosts, because we are all spirits. The Ghosts from children's stories, that fly around scaring people, just don't exist.
Haunted Places
Photo is Alcatraz Island 2005
Again, I admit it...I am a real science geek. I know people love ghost stories and like to believe that places are haunted because it's thrilling. A lot of people don't want to know the science behind the phenomena, they feel like that takes the "magic" and fun out of it. I of course, love the scientific reasons and feel like those reasons have their own kind of magic and fun.
Is there such thing as a haunted house or place? Yes and no, because of course every place is full of spirits and haunted and no because the question really has nothing to do with spirits or haunting.
Let's get back to my favorite subject, physics. which once again helps us understand why certain places like Alcatraz Island (in the photo) give us the heebie-jeebies.
Negative energy from traumatic or horrific events can form a build up in places where these events occurred. Places like Alcatraz Island, that housed dangerous criminals, military prisoners, serial killers and was a place where people felt hopeless, afraid, angry and all kinds of other horrific things, for years and years, are places that get a build up of negative energy.
Every thought we have produces energy, imagine how that energy would become after years of multiple people in one concentrated location, thinking thoughts of despair, pain, suffering, anger, hate and more. The energy around these locations is full of negative thought that echoes over and over again. When negative energy becomes that concentrated we can feel it, it actually has a sub-particle mass. that we can perceive on a physical level, just like static electricity, which is another type of energy that we can physically feel even though we can't visually see it.
My Mystic Path
Yes I am working on a book
I am currently in the final stages of a book about all of this and more. As soon as it is available I will let everyone know. I've also got a lot more lenses planned that will hopefully help people understand more about the wonders all around them in our metaphysical world.
Also watch for more detailed tarot and psychic lenses, intuition & psychic ability development "how to" lenses and there is also a guide to learning the tarot through intuition on the way. I want to thank all of my friends at Squidoo for all of the support that I've gotten here, that has really helped me get organized and is getting me closer to making these books a reality.
