Tarot Secrets Revealed!

Updated on January 1, 2011

The Truth About Tarot Cards

For hundreds of years the tarot has been shrouded in mystery. Although that air of mystery is part of the thrill, the time has come to reveal the truth.

Unfortunately, the sense of mystery that makes the tarot so exciting, also gives the tarot a bad name. Scammers, crooks & charlatans all have used this sense of mystery to profit and con people out of money.

These "fake" psychics and fortune-tellers, want people to believe that only they can read the tarot cards, in order to keep running their money making scams.

As someone who has studied & read tarot cards professionally for over 25 years, I can say that I personally am appauled by these scam artists, and the time has come to remove the mystery from tarot cards.

Here you will find the truth about tarot cards & about learning to read tarot cards, as well as some warning signs to look for when getting a professional tarot card reading.

Myth # 1 ~ Only Psychics Can Read Tarot Cards.

This is so untrue! Anyone can read tarot cards. Reading tarot cards is all about learning to trust your own inner voice, aka: intuition.

Reading Tarot Cards Is Completely Intuitive.

Anyone can read Tarot Cards.

Learning to read the Tarot is all about learning to trust your own intuition and inner voice. Learning to trust the first thought that pops into your head when you see each card is the true key to accurately reading tarot cards.

This is also one of the hardest parts about learning to read the cards. We all tend to second guess ourselves, especially when the thought that pops into our head, seems to contradict what we already know about the person we are reading the cards for.

Years of experience have taught me, that no matter how strange my first thought may seem to me, 99 times out of a 100, the person I'm reading the cards for doesn't think it's strange at all and knows exactly what I'm talking about, even if I don't.

People who claim that only they can accurately read your tarot cards, because they have psychic abilities and you don't, are scam artist. These people want you to believe that they have psychic power (when they usually don't have any) so you will keep giving them money.

This is not to say that there is no value in paying to get your tarot cards read by someone else. Legitimate Tarot card readers don't need to lie and claim that only they can read your cards. Having a legitimate Tarot card reader give you a reading can be very helpful and can help you see the issues in your life from another perspective.

Myth # 2 ~ Each Card Has A Specific Meaning.

The truth is that there is no set in stone right or wrong meaning for any particular tarot card.

How the Tarot Really Works!

The Truth About Tarot Card Meanings

The reality is that all of the books about tarot card meanings are only truly valid for the person that wrote that particular book.

Tarot Cards were created to stimulate the reader's subconscious mind through the symbols and imagery on the cards. Each cards can have a thousand different meanings for a thousand different people.

This is why trying to memorize card meanings never works for people who are trying to learn to read tarot cards. Books of tarot card meanings can be helpful at first, when one is familiarizing themselves with the different cards. It's always insightful to learn how others interpret the cards & can help you validate your first impressions of each card.

As long as you always keep in mind that any book of tarot card meanings is only that person's "suggested" meanings, and not necessarily the right meaning for each card when you are reading them.

There is no right or wrong meaning for any particular tarot card. The same card can have a different meaning for different people. The key to giving accurate tarot card readings is to trust what your own inner voice is telling you every time you read the cards, even when it varies from one reading to the next.

As a Tarot Card teacher, I've found this to be the biggest problem that most tarot students encounter. They find themselves second guessing their own intuition, because it is in conflict with the so called "card meanings" that they have tried to memorize.

Tarot students also become very confused, because every book about the tarot has similar yet very different meanings for each card. This is because every book is only that authors personal interpretation of each card and not a definitive meaning.

Once students learn to trust their own intuition to give them the meaning for each card in each reading, learning to read the tarot becomes much easier and their readings become much more accurate.

Using an intuition based workbook to learn to read the Tarot is a much better way than trying to memorize someone else's interpretation of the cards.

Keeping a Tarot journal in a fantastic way to use the tarot to work out problems, as well as a way to help us validate our intuitive take on our own readings.

Scam artists tell people that they cannot accurately read the tarot for themselves, to keep people coming back to give them more money. The truth is, that anyone can accurately read the Tarot cards for themselves, and can learn a lot about themselves in the process.

Tarot Card Myth ~ Your First Deck Must Be A Gift!

This myth is just silly and really bad advice!

Choosing A Tarot Deck

Best Tarot Decks For Beginners

You should always choose the Tarot deck that you want to learn from yourself. There are literally thousands of different Tarot decks available, there is a novelty tarot deck for almost any subject you can think of.

For Tarot beginners I recommend starting off with a Rider-Waite deck or one of the decks based on the Rider-Waite symbolism. The reason I suggest that beginners start out with one of these decks is because almost every other Tarot deck is based on the symbolism on the Rider-Waite cards.

There are older decks like the Marseilles deck, but not a lot of other decks have similar symbolism. Learning with a Rider-Waite deck, gets beginners familiar with the the basic symbolism found on most decks and enables them to then be able to easily use almost any other deck in the future.

I personally use the Morgan-Greer deck pictured here. The symbolism closely reflects the Rider-Waite decks, but this particular deck speaks to my intuition and I just like the size and feel of the cards.

Avoid Tarot Scams

Getting a Tarot Card reading can be a lot of fun, just always remember that there is no such thing as a hex, curse or the "evil-eye" and that we all have the power to shape our own future & destiny.

Warning Signs! - How to tell if your Tarot Reader is A FAKE!

Always get a price quote up front from a potential tarot reader and stick to that price.

It's okay to tip your Tarot card reader, but it's never okay for a reader to demand more money to life a hex or remove a curse.

Always remember that tarot card readings only show you possible future outcomes, you have the power to change your future by every choice you make in life. The tarot can help you see all of your choices, but it cannot predict a definite future event.

  • If They tell you that you have been hexed, cursed or that you are the victim of the "evil-eye"
  • If they tell you that only psychics can read tarot cards.
  • If they ask you for money to cure a hex, curse or the "evil-eye"
  • If they claim that they can cast a "love spell" or any spell for you.
  • If they claim they can cure you of your problems or illnesses.
  • If they give you "predictions" of what will happen to you in the future & then claim they can change your future for a small fee.
